Letter From The Editors May 2008

May is associated with Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Week in the Carolinas and beyond. This year, the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association has moved their head quarters from the Convention Center to the Hard Rock Theme Park parking lot behind the old Waccamaw Pottery building just across the Intracoastal Waterway on 501. In addition to acres of FREE PARKING the Dealers Association will be hosting a Harley-Davidson hospitality tent, bike games, a ride in bike show, the Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum, Demo Rides on 08 H-D motorcycles, the only location that you can purchase an OFFICIAL 2008 Myrtle Beach Rally t-shirt, and it is also a H.O.G. pin stop (9am-5pm). There will also be vendors on site and THERE IS NO ADMISSION CHARGE to visit the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association venue. The dates will be Wednesday, May 14th – Saturday, May 17th so make plans to visit them while you are in Myrtle Beach. The Hard Rock Amusement Park is scheduled to open early in May, and there is an admission charge if you choose to enter the park.

May is also declared Motorcycle Awareness Month by many local governments and municipalities. Many motorcycle rights activists have solicited and received proclamations from mayors, city councils, and Governors across the country declaring May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is running Public Service Announcements declaring May as NATIONAL Motorcycle Awareness Month. In North Carolina, Governor Michael F. Easley proclaimed April 21-25 as “MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK” along with Small Business Week. What’s up with that? Beth Horner of the Governors Highway Safety Program said it was because the Governor declared May as Seatbelt Safety Awareness Month in honor of the “Click it or ticket campaign’s 15th anniversary. Since they couldn’t make two proclamations for one month (?) they chose the week before.

Well, Gov, Thanks for the Proclamation, but this is supposed to be a MONTH long campaign directed at “other motor vehicle operators” to watch out for MOTORCYCLES. Not that there is anything wrong with learning to ride properly and legally, but that’s another issue. You can read the proclamation at:
http://www.governor.state.nc.us/Proclamation_FullStory.asp
We won’t even get the pleasure of voting this bum out of office, but next year if several hundred of us petition the governor’s office to proclaim Motorcycle Awareness Month, I think Governor Smith will honor that petition. Visit: Join Fred.com to learn about a biker friendly candidate for NC Governor.

Enough already. Let’s ride! BE SAFE and watch out for the cagers.

The Carolinas'
Full Throttle Magazine

The Carolinas' Full Throttle Magazine is entirely supported by our advertisers, whom we appreciate greatly. They are the reason this magazine is, and will always be, a free publication. It would be great, as you pick up your copy this month, to let the advertisers know that you saw their ad and you appreciate the support they give to the riding community by advertising in The Carolinas' Full Throttle Magazine. It wouldn't hurt to buy something, either!

We are determined to continue to work hard to keep this publication #1 in the Carolinas. We need people to cover events and sell advertising all over the Carolinas. If you would like to come along for the ride, just give us a call. We are bikers who publish a magazine, not publishers who own motorcycles!

If you have an event that you want to see on the web and/or in the magazine, call us at 888-469-5400 or visit The Carolina's Full Throttle Online Cruisin' Calendar to post your event. Leave as much information as possible!

The cowards never started and the weak died along the way!
